Wildlife from your window — The Craneridge neighborhood is home to deer, fox, woodchuck, raccoon, red and gray squirrel, and chipmunks.  Frequent birds include chickadee, nuthatch, tufted titmouse, goldfinch, purple and house finch, robin, blue jay, cardinal, song sparrow, red-breasted grosbeak, Baltimore oriole, junco, and six different types of woodpecker including Pileated.

Even though we live in the country, activities of all types (especially outdoor activities) abound…

Downhill skiing and snowboarding:  Kissing Bridge (directly across from Craneridge on 240), Buffalo Ski Club (10 minutes north on 240), and Holiday Valley (35 minutes south on 219).

Cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking:   Sprague Brook Park, which is a major draw for Craneridge residents, offers some of the best cross country ski trails in Western New York (walk from Craneridge) and offers over 2,000 acres of woods, meadows, and streams for mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and hiking as well as picnicking and camping.   The Erie County Forest (10 minutes south on Genesee off 240) is a hidden treasure of a broad network of trails suitable for hiking, skiing, and snow shoeing.

Hiking and wildlife watching:  In addition to the locations above, Zoar Valley NY multi-use area  (30 minutes south-east near Gowanda) offers stunning waterfalls, 500 foot cliffs, and views along Cattaraugus Creek.  Popular for white water rafting in the spring with its class II to class IV rapids.  The Conservation Trail (connected to the Finger Lakes Trail Conference) offers miles of groomed hiking trails that run just east of Craneridge and extend down to Ellicottville and points south.
